Who knew that dogs could love their veggies as much as we do? Most vegetables are not only safe for dogs to eat, but they also offer a range of health benefits.

Carrots, for instance, are a crunchy favorite, packed with vitamins and great for dental health. Green beans are another hit, offering fiber and a low-calorie treat option. And let’s not forget sweet potatoes, which are rich in beta-carotene and provide a tasty, nutritious snack.

When preparing veggies for your pup, make sure to wash them thoroughly and to cut them into small pieces to avoid choking. Remove any stems, leaves, seeds, or cores.

Many PugMug customers have shared that their dogs go crazy for these vibrant veggies, making them a staple in their pet’s diet.

Fruits

Fruits can be a sweet and nutritious addition to your dog’s diet, and they’re on many dogs’ favorite foods lists! Not only do they provide essential vitamins and minerals, but they also serve as a refreshing treat, especially during the warmer months.

Most fruits are safe for dogs to eat, but check out this list of fruits and veggies that are safe and not safe for pets. Apples, with their crunchy texture, are a favorite among dogs and are great for keeping their teeth clean. Blueberries are a powerhouse of antioxidants and a fun, bite-sized treat. But the clear favorite among our PugMug community is watermelon! Perfect for hot summer days, watermelon is hydrating, low in calories, and packed with vitamins A, B6, and C.

Be sure to remove the seeds, pits, and rind before serving any fruits to your furry friend, and wash the fruits thoroughly.

Ice Cream

Who can resist the creamy goodness of ice cream? It turns out, dogs love it too!

While human ice cream should be given sparingly due to sugar and lactose content, there are plenty of dog-friendly ice cream options available that are safe and delicious.

We surveyed our PugMug customers, and the favorite flavor among our canine connoisseurs was vanilla, with a few strawberry enthusiasts in the mix as well.

While it probably shouldn’t be a daily indulgence, ice cream can be a fantastic birthday treat for your dog, adding a special touch to their celebration. For more birthday party ideas, check out our blog post on 7 Ideas for Celebrating Your Dog's Birthday.

When it comes to seafood, opinions can be mixed, but many dogs enjoy it just as much as their human counterparts.

Fish like sardines are not only tasty but also offer numerous health benefits, including omega-3 fatty acids that support skin, coat, and joint health. Some dog breeds, such as retrievers, seem to have a particular fondness for seafood.

However, it's important to ensure that the fish is properly cooked and free of bones. Moderation is key, but incorporating seafood into your dog's diet can be a nutritious and enjoyable option.

French Fries

Ah, french fries—the ultimate comfort food for many of us. But are they safe for our dogs?

Human french fries are generally not recommended for dogs due to their high salt and fat content. However, plain, cooked potatoes can be a safe and healthy option.

Sweet potatoes, in particular, are a fantastic alternative, offering vitamins and minerals that support overall health. If you’re looking for a fun way to include potatoes in your dog’s diet, consider baking some homemade dog-friendly fries!

Conclusion

Exploring the diverse tastes of our canine companions and dogs’ favorite foods is always an adventure. From crunchy vegetables to refreshing fruits, creamy ice cream, nutritious seafood, and even a healthier take on french fries, there's a world of flavors that dogs love.

Just remember that not all human foods are safe for dogs and that human food should be eaten in moderation. Veterinarians generally recommend that no more than 10% of a dog’s diet should be human food and snacks, and the remaining 90% should come from a well-balanced dog food diet.
