About Second Shot

Did you know that 6.5 million dogs and cats end up in shelters every year, and sadly, about 3.5 million don’t get a second shot at a happy life?

Animal rescues and shelters do their best to showcase each pet, but they often lack the funds for professional photography resources. This means the photos they post are often blurry or poorly lit, making it harder for these adorable animals to catch someone’s eye.

Enter Lisa Binns and Second Shot Animal Rescue Photography! Lisa founded Second Shot over ten years ago to tackle this very issue. Second Shot provides stunning photos of rescue animals from across the Midwest in beautiful settings, helping these precious pets find their new families.

Here are just a couple of the amazing animal stories from dogs sponsored by Second Shot.

Meet Hazim

Meet Hazim, a resilient three-and-a-half-year-old Canaan mix who has been on an extraordinary journey.

Rescued from the war-torn West Bank, Hazim was one of 69 dogs who embarked on a challenging journey across multiple airplanes to find safety. He finally arrived in Cincinnati, where he was welcomed by a foster family, providing a safe haven amidst the increasing dangers in his homeland.

Since arriving at his foster home, Hazim has been adjusting beautifully to his new life of safety and comfort. He quickly bonded with the two resident dogs, who have become his stable companions. Hazim loves curling up in cozy spots, particularly favoring a basket of clean blankets.

Hazim's journey hasn't been without its challenges. He carries some trauma from his past, making him fearful of thunderstorms and fireworks, and he has an extreme dislike for water. Despite these fears, Hazim has shown incredible progress, transforming from a fearful dog who resisted being touched to a much more confident and loving companion. His story is one of hope and resilience, and with the right forever home, Hazim is sure to flourish and bring immense joy to his new family.

Meet Tony Hawk

Photograph from Second Shot Photography of Tony Hawk, a 3-year-old rescue dog with a dog wheelchair on his hind legs

Meet Tony Hawk, a three-year-old pup with a spirit as adventurous as his name. The wheels on Tony’s part-time wheelchair make him the fastest dog on the block, zooming around faster than his namesake.

Despite needing a wheelchair for city walks and hiking trails, Tony doesn’t let anything slow him down. Around the house and in the yard, he fits right in with the pack, always keeping a low profile and maintaining his humble attitude. His back legs might be at an odd angle due to being born with a curved spine, but that doesn’t stop him from living life to the fullest.

When he’s not exploring, you can find Tony Hawk lounging in his favorite donut bed or keeping an eye on things in the kitchen. Tony’s intelligence is impressive; he’s even able to communicate using talking buttons, though most of his messages revolve around food!

This rad guy loves meeting new people and would be thrilled to join you on outings to a local brewery or spend a cozy evening by the fire at home. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home, making him a great addition to any family. While it's unknown how he gets along with cats or children, Tony’s friendly nature suggests he could adapt well to any companion.

Tony Hawk is up to date on his shots, potty trained, and ready to find his forever home. With his adventurous spirit and big heart, Tony is stoked to join your crew and share his love and joy with you.
